This week’s “wrench” was the fact that the singers had to play instruments in the video for My Chemical Romance’s ‘Sing.’ Since our dreadlocked pal Samuel is the only one who plays instruments, it would appear that he had a distinct advantage. Not so, as you’ll find out later.

Read my interview with Matt Pinfield over at ArtistDIRECT. Said Pinfield,
“I love music and I’m a music enthusiast, not an elitist. I’ve always believed in sharing and turning people onto music. I should also say that the people who started most of the big music websites out there right now may not admit it to you, but they’ve told me that 120 and I inspired many of them to devote their life to music, and I’m proud of that!”

In order to test their believability, this week’s video was created for ‘The Only Exception’ by Paramore. The singers were required to convey being in love with someone who doesn’t know they even exist and this assignment required them to focus on the acting and the singing, not the choreography.

I wrote another recap for ‘The Glee Project.’
The contestants revisited familiar territory for the video, once again performing a Katy Perry song. This time it was ‘Teenage Dream.’ The final six were paired up to perform different and unique scenarios that demonstrated their sexuality. However, the minute you try and force being sexy, it’s usually not sexy at all, and the contestants were told to be aware of that.

I interviewed Andy Atkins, vocalist for A Plea for Purging, about the bands’ recording process. Said Atkins,
“We have been spending the summer hanging, BBQing, and riding motorcycles. The music is coming along nicely and isn’t a constant nagging “job” that we have to do but a fulfilling pass time during our downtime from massive summer parties! I spend most of my days cruising the highways and streets of Nashville. It’s a great time for reflection and I get much inspiration from it.”

Read my recap of this week’s episode of ‘The Glee Project,’ with “tenacity” as the theme.
For the homework assignment, the crew was asked to demonstrate tenacity by performing LaRoux’s ‘Bulletproof.’ Adler made the singers cycle through the song twice, asking them to show him something new that they’ve yet to do. He said they all brought their “A plus” game, but Marissa won.

I spoke with Il Volo about American Idol, and how they’d love to do a duet with Celine Dion. Said the band,
“The day after ‘American Idol,’ our management said to us, that we had 30 million viewers. We said, ‘Really?’ We were really excited. Before ‘American Idol,’ we were three unknowns. Our lives changed because of ‘American Idol.’ Then, we were in Times Square and everyone recognized us.”

I interviewed Skylar Grey about her debut ‘Invinsible’ album, her preference in singing her own songs, how Marilyn Manson inspired her album title, and what she fantasizes about on airplanes. Said Grey,
It’s about making good art. I don’t have a voice like people in the pop industry and you can’t make me have a different voice. I will just create art. Here’s my thing: Alanis Morissette didn’t sound like anyone when she came out. It sounded like alternative music. Then, being on the radio, it turned into pop music, which changes over time. Pop music is an ever-changing, evolving thing.
