Kerry Malouf Interview

Kerry MaloufI interviewed Kerry Malouf, celebrity makeup artist and new BN contributor.

What’s your take on New York vs. Los Angeles beauty?

I love working in LA and New York. New York is more fashion-oriented and people take it more seriously. LA is mostly celebrity-based.

Brann Dailor Interview

I spoke with Brann Dailor of Mastodon about his most memorable tour experiences. Said Dailor,

“Once we were in Binghamton and we played a China Buffet that was closed. The stage was where the buffet line would start. Behind us was a light box of the Hong Kong skyline, with 300-400 kids rocking out.”

Aboard the Death By Stereo Van

I got to hang out with the Death By Stereo guys today, and they showed us their van for a special feature on Noisecreep. Said vocalist/guitarist Efrem Schulz:

“The Adolescents borrowed our van to go to Vegas,” Schulz said. “When I met up with them to get it back, they were like, ‘Dude, what’s up with your van? We found anal beads, a butt plug and hardcore anal porn.’ They had hit the brakes hard and all that shit rolled out from under the seats. They were Dan Palmer’s anal beads! The butt plug was property of Daniel Aaron Palmer!”

Tom Morello Interview

I spoke with Tom Morello and he told me how to make that “‘screechy scratch’ sound” on the guitar!

“Turn the volume of one pick up to 10 and of the other pick up to 0. When you switch between pick ups, it acts as a killswitch, since one is off and one is on. Once you get that far, rub the palm of your hand along the strings, which is abrasive and makes a ‘white noise’ wash. Then use the toggle switch, which turns the white noise wash on and off… which sounds very much like a turntable scratch.”

Marilyn Manson Interview

I interviewed Marilyn Manson about the release of ‘The High End of Low.’ Said Manson,

It’s a choice I have made to assert myself in the position of villain. It’s a big responsibility [chuckles]. People always ask celebrities, ‘Oh how do you feel about role model?’ How about role villain? That’s way harder. A model poses. The villain gets shit done.

Kerry King Interview

I spoke with Kerry King of Slayer about the upcoming Mayhem Festival with Marilyn Manson. Said King,

“Our last tour was with Manson, so I know what to expect,” guitarist Kerry King told Noisecreep. “The one wild card is that he has Twiggy back in the band, so they will be more fiery. And off stage, all he drinks is absinthe, so if I drink with him, chances are, we’re drinking absinthe. It doesn’t make me hallucinate or become a madman! I already am a madman. It makes me want to chill and listen to tunes.”

Interview with Al Jourgensen

I interviewed Al Jourgensen of Ministry guru and Revolting Cocks, and talked about his other passion; hockey. Said Jourgensen,

“I’ve been having a blast doing hockey commentary every Wednesday,” Jourgensen said. “But last week, I took some calls and the kiddies aren’t digging my picks, but so far I’ve called 9 of the 12 series correctly, which is still better than most of those bonehead analysts on TV. Do I sense a future career change? You never know.”

Interview with Scott Stapp of Creed

I interviewed Scott Stapp of Creed about getting the band back together. Said Stapp,

At a recent rehearsal, Mark was playing something and the guys joined in. I was feeling emotional and didn’t know why. It’s these guys who pull it out of me. In the past, we had experienced lows that we’ll never see again. As you grow and are committed and consistent, then, the next time there is a fall or problem or a personality quirk, that bottom ain’t down there. It’s up here [lifts hands higher]. The level of falls get smaller and smaller.
