The ultimate lowlight? Poor Jermaine Jones being sent home over a legal matter. We caught a glimpse of his rehearsal of ‘Somewhere Out There,’ which was just terrific. It was a hint that made us think his performance would have been mentioned the above paragraph.

American Idol Recap: The Top 13

On tonight’s (March 7) episode of ‘American Idol,’ the Top 13 were asked to perform songs by Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder. The girls performed Houston’s hits, while the boys tackled Wonder’s work.

We admit we were skeptical at first, because the judges consistently warn the hopefuls about attempting the three divas (Whitney, Mariah, Celine) since they are, as J. Lo said, “beasts.”

The Voice Round 1 Recap

They paired singers of the same ilk together, with Blake Shelton staging a country showdown and a rock ‘n’ roll battle. Christina Aguilera also had two teams go tonight, having her powerhouses and her gospel guys step up to the mic. Adam Levine had a pair of dudes go at it, while Cee Lo pitted his big-voiced females against one another.

The blind auditions of ‘The Voice‘ wound down tonight (Feb. 27) and the coaches continued the trend of being a bit more selective and consorting with each before they turn around those big red space chairs. It’s as though they are influencing each other’s choices much more this season.

American Idol Recap: Top 12 Girls

All the girls performed this evening, with only half able to go through to next week. It was another mixed bag of talent, with country gals and torch singers sharing the stage. We also tried to keep track of how many times Randy Jackson said “Yo” but it was futile. It’s like every other word.

The Top 10 for Season 11 of ‘American Idol‘ was chosen by the voting public tonight (March 1), with three wild card slots handed out by the judges after they selected five hopefuls to sing for the save. Lots of favorites were sent packing – namely Reed Grimm, Creighton Fraker, Jen Hirsh and Hallie Day.

Only the crop of boys performed, and we have to say there is quite a bit of variety this season. We enjoyed a neo-jazz scatter, a White Chocolate soul singer, an indie alt rock pianist and more. Jermaine Jones was brought back to compete, too.

American Idol Recap: 14 Advance

The 42-contestant herd on ‘American Idol‘ is being thinned out to 24: 12 girls, 12 guys. The final 24 will perform for the first time at the live shows next week. Can you believe we are already at the live shows, ‘Idol’ watchers?

We’re one step closer to crowning Scotty McCreery‘s heir apparent. But no clear front-runner has emerged yet. That should change next week when the contestants show us what they are made of.

Host Carson Daly has a hard job, stationing himself backstage with the singer’s families and friends, expressing frustration and bewilderment when the judges don’t turn their chairs around. He’s in an unenviable position of having to comfort families when contestant dreams are destroyed. But he remains likeable and supportive the whole time.
