American Idol Recap: Hollywood Week

Read my latest American Idol Recap.

The contestants have to form groups of four or five members and the caveat is that the groups must be a mix of performers from Day 1 and Day 2. That meant the already-formed alliances formed by people who performed on Day 1 and those who performed on Day 2 were cracked and ripped apart by the rules. It’s like ‘Survivor’ for singers.

American Idol Recap: St. Louis Auditions

Read my American Idol recap all about the auditions in St. Louis.

The final batch of ‘American Idol‘ auditions took place in St. Louis, the gateway to the west. It’s also the city where Carrie Underwood first auditioned years ago, and we all know where she ended up, so perhaps the show is revisiting this site to recapture some ‘Idol’ magic. American Idol Recap: Portland Audititions

Read my American Idol recap all about the auditions in Portland, OR.

Portland is a pop culture hot bed. From the hilarious series ‘Portlandia’ — which celebrates the indie-dom and coolness of the region and is as far removed from ‘American Idol‘ and its pop sensibilities — to the hipster-friendly nature of the often cloudy and rainy area, Portland is on our radar a bunch.

Lana Del Rey, ‘Born to Die’ Review

I reviewed ‘Born to Die,’ the new album from Lana Del Rey.

“The album is a sexy, sprawling ode to sex and death. There is not much in the way of variation when it comes to the pace of the songs: They are slow and they take their sweet time making their points.”

Carlos Pena Jr. of Big Time Rush Interview

Read my interview with Carlos Pena Jr. of Big Time Rush and we spoke about the band’s upcoming tour with One Direction, and about boy bands over the years. Said Carlos Pena Jr,

I was all about Backstreet Boys, but I can’t pick a fave between them or ‘N Sync. Do you remember that one band LFO? They were great. I really think the music was so pure back then. Nowadays, songs are about sex, drugs and alcohol, but back then, they talked about other things. When Backstreet Boy sang, “I drive myself crazy,” it was nothing negative. It just about going crazy thinking about when I’m not with you. It was pure. I hope we can bring that back.

American Idol Recap: Pittsburgh Auditions

Read my latest American Idol recap.

Pittsburgh is the city of champions and the Steelers, but it has also spawned a few pop stars like Christina Aguilera and Wiz Khalifa. Additionally, it was the setting for ‘American Idol‘ auditions on the second part of the Season 11 premiere. It’s the first time the show has ever camped out in the ‘Burgh in its history. It’s never too late for black ‘n’ yellow, is it?

American Idol Recap: David Leathers, Jr, Jessica Whitely + More

Read my latest recap of American Idol.

There were lots of “Never stop believing in yourself” and “You’re going to Hollywood” comments, and plenty of Jennifer Lopez‘s maternal declarations as she, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler traveled to the laid back, sleepy Southern city of Savannah, Ga. to both realize and crush dreams for 10,000 prospective Idols.
