I reviewed the latest single from Lady Gaga, ‘You and I.’

Overall, Gaga’s voice, guitar riffs and keyboards take center stage in the song, and in that order and ‘You and I’ is satisfying slice of Gaga-gone-rock-opera.

American Idol Recap: Final Three

Here’s my latest recap of American Idol.

The final three contestants performed three songs each on tonight’s ‘American Idol‘ semi-finals. They got to choose one, famed record producer Jimmy Iovine picked one and so did the show’s producers. Rock, pop and country music hits were all featured.

American Idol Recap: Inspirational Songs

This week, the remaining four ‘American Idol‘ hopefuls were challenged with singing standards penned by Leiber & Stoller, as well as songs that inspire them. Interestingly, each ‘Idol’ went with a ballad (or bombastic ballad, if you’re James Durbin) for their inspirational song. The only conclusion PopCrush can come up with is that it’s anyone’s crown to wear.

They were allowed to perform one modern song and one from their parents’ era. It was a test of how adaptable the singers are. Most of them gave good performances, but those who gave iffy performances during the first song (Jacob Lusk, Haley Reinhart) quickly redeemed themselves the second time out.

While much of the monarchy-less America is obsessed with England’s upcoming royal wedding for some reason or other, ‘American Idol‘ was celebrating music royalty in the form of songwriter Carole King this week. Even if you don’t know King as a vocalist or even by name, you no doubt know her songs, as pop stars have been belting out her tunes, like ‘Will You Still Love me Tomorrow’ and ‘You’ve Got a Friend,’ for much of the modern era.

On tonight’s episode of ‘American Idol,’ the remaining seven contestants picked from a pool of songs released in the 21st Century. That’s a lot of choices spanning the last 11 years — giving the contestants a chance to choose more recent hits from their favored genres. The Idols channeled their country and R&B roots, among others, but two standout performances rocked our world.

We also have to give Steven — not Steve, as fellow judge Jennifer Lopez learned the hard way — props for having a more expanded vocabulary and ability to turn a phrase than Randy Jackson, who starts and ends every comment with “yo” or “dog.”

We were treated to rock, pop, jazz and metal! Yes, metal. Here’s our breakdown of this week’s performances! It’s hard to predict who is going to go home.
