Christina Aguilera also had two teams go tonight, having her powerhouses and her gospel guys step up to the mic. Adam Levine had a pair of dudes go at it, while Cee Lo pitted his big-voiced females against one another.

The blind auditions of ‘The Voice‘ wound down tonight (Feb. 27) and the coaches continued the trend of being a bit more selective and consorting with each before they turn around those big red space chairs. It’s as though they are influencing each other’s choices much more this season.

Host Carson Daly has a hard job, stationing himself backstage with the singer’s families and friends, expressing frustration and bewilderment when the judges don’t turn their chairs around. He’s in an unenviable position of having to comfort families when contestant dreams are destroyed. But he remains likeable and supportive the whole time.

The coaches are filling up their teams slowly, steadily and surely. Cee Lo Green has expressed a need to create a team full of diversity, while Christina Aguilera want huge voices but is being pickier and more cautious since the talent is better and the stakes are higher this year. Adam Levine is very picky, and often turns his chair around towards the end of performances, while Blake Shelton goes on instinct and as soon as a voice hits him.

Javier Colon beat Dia Frampton by a narrow margin of two percent to be named the first winner of ‘The Voice!’ He’s this show’s Kelly Clarkson, and if her career is any indication of what lies ahead, Colon has a blindingly bright future.

The ep opened with the coaches performing Queen’s ‘Under Pressure’ together, and their voices gelled. They didn’t try and compete with each other; they saved that action for their proteges. But there was a vibe from the coaches that indicated that they were really enjoying all of the performances and were feeling conflicted because they’ve grown to enjoy and care about the other contestants. Even Cee Lo said that a contestant needn’t be on his team in order for him to be a fan.

Adam Levine went first, pitting Jeff Jenkins and Casey Desmond against one another, in a classic battle of obvious favorite versus the dark horse. Levine had the two polar opposites sing Elton John’s ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me,’ since the song is a show stopper. He chose Jenkins for his simple but mind-blowing style.

Christina Aguilera had two of her female team members engage in battle with Rihanna‘s ‘Only Girl (In the World).’ Xtina pitted Raquel Castro, who starred in the flop ‘Jersey Girl’ and is the youngest voice, against So-Cal gal Julia Eason.
