American Idol Recap: The Top 8

Check out my latest American Idol recap.

While the ’80s is a fun decade, full of excess and larger-than-life-ness, the Idols focused on the ballad side of the spectrum. Again, it was a little snoozy, with slow song after slow song. The producers wisely paired the contestants up for duets that were sprinkled throughout the individual perfs, to add some life and livelihood to the proceedings.

Adele on the Cover of EW

Read my post about Adele on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

The cover tag is ‘The Adele Effect,’ and the feature looks at how the powerhouse singer and her bazillion-selling ’21′ altered the musical landscape in 2011 and how there is a ripple effect. The accompanying article also breaks down how ’21′ changed the music biz game and how it caused A&R reps to begin the search and the feeding frenzy for the “next” Adele.

Katy Perry in Teen Vogue Magazine

Read my post about Katy Perry in the new Teen Vogue Magazine.

Perry spoke about how proud she is of her string of No. 1 hit singles from ‘Teenage Dream’ saying, “I’m not like, ‘Ugh, number one again.’ It’s funny, though—my label gets so caught up in the statistics, just because they’re excited.

The Voice Live Round Week One Recap

Read my recap from week one of the The Voice Live Round.

The live shows finally began on ‘The Voice‘ tonight, so the coaches changed outfits after several pre-taped weeks of battle rounds which saw them dressed in the same thing, like a grandpa cardigan. We’re talking to you, Adam Levine! His bromantic parnter Blake Shelton was fresh off his hosting gig. Cee Lo also rocked a new coif, with some sort of wig-like appendage on his head.

Carly Rae Jepsen Interview

I recently interviewed Carly Rae Jepsen. Said Jepsen,

“When you write a bunch of songs, it’s like being asked to pick a favorite kid. You wonder what will be loved and which will just be my own little journal entry that I personally like. It was a surprise that it took off the way it did, but a welcome surprise.”

The Metal Show Recap: Lars Ulrich and More!

Read my recap from ‘That Metal Show.’

Has it really been 10 seasons of VH1 Classic’s ‘That Metal Show?’ Yes, it has. Season 10 kicked off last night (March 31) with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn as the guests on the gab fest. So one might say it was a Bay Area-centric episode. Ain’t nothing wrong with that, as its one of the most metallic and fertile regions of the U.S.

P.O.D. ‘Lost in Forever’ Song Review

Read my review of P.O.D.’s latest song, ‘Lost in Forever.’

There’s decidedly less rapping on ‘Lost in Forever,’ which is comprised of a thick stew of riffs, layered harmonies and thunderous percussion. There’s echoed vocals, which are a staple of the P.O.D. sound, but the song is not sterile or clean. There’s a bit of a disortion on the guitars, giving the song an edge.

American Idol Recap: The Personal Idol Episode!

Read my latest recap of American Idol.

Tonight’s (March 28) episode of ‘American Idol‘ featured the nine remaining contestants performing the songs of their own personal idols. It’s a smart theme, since these kids are trying to be Idols! Fleetwood Mac Queen Stevie Nicks performed her civic duty by serving as this episode’s guest mentor.
